Introduction

Caves are large, open caverns that can be found while mining. They are random in both size and shape, and can generate in any layer. Caves can spawn as one of several types based on world, which changes the block that makes up the cave as well as what ores are able to generate within it; this allows certain ores to generate outside the layer they are normally found in. Some ores are exclusive to caves and/or certain cave types, and are commonly referred to as Cave Exclusives.

Caves

Introduction

The Frozen Cave is a special cave found in World 1. It has a 1/8 chance to replace a normal cave, being the most common cave type in the entire game. The Inclemetite event adds an extra event cave roll of just 1/3. It also has the most cave exclusives in the world, those being Cryotic, Altovite and Cerlustrium.

An additional event roll of 1/5 is present when the Magnetyx event is active. Almost all ores found in this cave are Exotic or above, though it lacks any cave exclusive ores. The main block, Reflectistone, looks different depending on the in-game day time, since it reflects the skybox.

Cave Types

Introduction

The Gilded Cave is a special cave type present in all areas. It has a 1/5,700 chance to replace a normal cave, being the rarest cave type overall. This chance is reduced to 1/57 if the player is mining with the 57 Leaf Clover or has the Ambrosia Salad equipped. Instead of containing only specific ores, it contains every single ore in the current world (aside from Cave Exclusives) at an increased 2.5x rarity. Despite this, some ores remain exclusive to this cave type, and these ores do not have the increased 2.5x rarity.

Adjusted Rarity

If a player gets an ore in a Gilded Cave, its adjusted rarity can easily be calculated with one of two formulas.

If the player is not using a Gilded Cave booster the formula would be as follows:

If a player is using a Gilded Cave booster, the formula would be as follows:

For example, if a player gets a Temporum in a Gilded Cave, it would have an adjusted rarity of 1/79,166,658,750 without a booster or an adjusted rarity of 1/791,666,588 with a booster.

Trivia

  • Due to a bug, some ores like Iron can spawn in Gilded Caves in Subworld 1. A bug also existed in Aesteria where the only ore found in Gilded Caves would be Gold.
  • This cave is usually where the rarest ores ever are found, due to extremely low cave chance and the ability to spawn any ore with even lower odds.
    • This cave holds the record for the rarest ore found, an ionized Portalium found with MURD-ERROR by Levantris. It has an adjusted rarity of 1 in 25,262,400,000,000.
  • For a period of only seven minutes, Tycoon crystal was able to be found in Gilded Caves in Aesteria when the 2024 Summer Event first released.
    • If its rarity was left unchanged when added, it had an adjusted rarity of 1 in 776,625,000,000 (1 in 7,766,250,000 if using the 57 Leaf Clover or Ambrosia Salad).

Notes

  1. 2022 Halloween Event exclusive.
  2. Gold cannot spawn anywhere else in World 2 or Aesteria.
  3. This is due to a bug that makes Iron able to spawn in Gilded Caves in Subworld 1.

Notes

  1. Gold cannot spawn anywhere else in World 2 or Aesteria.
  2. This is due to a bug that makes Iron able to spawn in Gilded Caves in Subworld 1.

Trivia

  • Caves are coded to generate flatter in Aesteria to allow for easier spawning of Aurora Polaris, a cave exclusive ore that can only spawn on cave floors.
