Not to be confused with the Tripmine ore.
Introduction
The Subspace Tripmine is a Tier 7 Manual Left Hand Gear that can be crafted in World 2. While mining, it has a 1/250 chance to replace a nearby layer block spawned by the pickaxe with a Tripmine block, which upon mining it, explodes with a
x2 boost and a radius dependent on how fast the player mined the tripmine when it spawned it. The radius of the explosion is calculated by in studs where is the time since the ore was spawned in seconds. This calculation has a minimum value of 20 studs (3.33 blocks)[1] and a maximum value of 40 studs (6.67 blocks). Essentially, the faster the player mines the tripmine when it spawns, the bigger the explosion will be. To get the maximum explosion radius, the player has to mine the tripmine within 0.7 seconds or less.
History
The Subspace Tripmine was added upon World 2's release. Over time, it had its recipe altered and its mechanics changed on multiple occasions.
In its first iteration, introduced upon World 2's release, the Subspace Tripmine would explode when the player touched the dropped bomb. Should the bomb not be triggered for 5 seconds, it would disarm. For every disarmed bomb, the next would have an increased radius and luck boost. Should 5 consecutive bombs not be triggered, the last would detonate automatically.
In its second and previous iteration, introduced with the release of the Subworld 1 revamp update, the Subspace Tripmine would detonate dropped bombs after pressing a corresponding button at the bottom right of your screen. It was also converted to a manual gear.
Upon the release of The Rebalance™ update, the Subspace Tripmine was reworked to the current iteration of the gear.

Trivia
- The Subspace Tripmine's design is taken from a popular gear of the same name published in the Avatar Marketplace, costing 150 Robux.
- Before its rework, the concept of stepping on tripmines came from the gear's functionality as well.
- Before the current rework, if the player activated a tripmine in under 0.6 seconds, the key on the bottom right will turn gold instead of green. This was known as a "golden explosion" and yielded the maximum power a tripmine could give.
- This is one of two tier seven gears to have collision on the thrown part of the gear, with the other being Obliveracy Obliterator.
Notes
- ↑ Technically, the minimum value of the equation is 1 stud (0.167 blocks) (relevant code: math.clamp(20 + (14 / timeSinceSpawn), 1, 40). However, the equation in practice can never go below 20 unless timeSinceSpawn becomes a negative number.
